According to the United States Census Bureau, the population of Mt. Washington was 14,054 as of the 2020 census. This represents a 37.3% increase in population since the 2010 census, which recorded a population of 9,117.

Washington, with a homeownership rate of 77.7%. The median value of owner-occupied housing units in the city was $211,500, while the median gross rent was $1,015 per month.
Mt. Washington was founded in 1822 and was originally called “The Cross Roads” because it was where the Bardstown-Louisville and Shepherdsville-Lexington turnpikes intersected. The city’s name was changed to Mt. Washington in honor of George Washington.
In the early 20th century, Mt. Washington was a popular destination for tourists who wanted to escape the heat of the city. Many of the historic homes that were built during this time still stand today, adding to the city’s charm and character.

If you enjoy outdoor activities, you’ll love Mt. Washington’s proximity to Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. This 16,000-acre forest offers hiking trails, fishing, and canoeing, as well as a visitor center with exhibits and educational programs.
For those who prefer indoor activities, Mt. Washington is home to several unique shops and restaurants. One must-visit spot is Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop, which offers locally roasted coffee, baked goods, and live music.

Washington Elementary School and Crossroads Elementary School, while middle schools include Mt. Washington Middle School and Eastside Middle School. High school students attend Bullitt East High School.
